CMiC, an innovative ERP solution provider for the construction industry, was looking for a user experience refresh for their construction project management app. The main objective of the team was to provide UX/UI recommendations and align best IT practices.

UNDERSTAND THE USER

Working with key stakeholders at CMiC, the team worked to understand how to align user goals with business needs. Research sessions were conducted to understand the current application and its pain points. One unique user objective drawn from research was to be able to have project managers connect seamlessly with each other, empowering their workflow and allowing faster access to real-time information.

 

INTERFACE REDESIGN

One of the main goals was updating the user interface. The nature of the construction industry provided some very specific and unique challenges, which were discovered through research sessions. These challenges included designing a bold and clear interface for a user that may be out in the sun or in a dark room, as well as making sure the application was accessible for users wearing touch activated gloves.

COLLABORATION

The team collaborated closely with CMiC’s Lead Developer to integrate the UX/UI recommendations into their existing Oracle technology stack. This close partnership helped to identify key challenges and opportunities, allowing both parties to become more efficient.

 

INSPIRING A SUITE OF PRODUCTS

After completion of the first application, the Field Manager, showed great success with construction teams, CMiC began producing main applications to meet other team needs, including a time tracker, approval system, and RFI manager.
